If I call you, do I have to stay at the shelter?
Not at all. We can provide support on the phone. We can meet with you and provide help without your having to stay at the shelter. We can also provide support as part of legal proceedings.

Can I get help even if I don’t experience physical violence?
Certainly, since there are many forms of violence, some of which occur more often than physical violence: psychological, verbal, cyber-violence, sexual, and spiritual as well as violence relating to your financial or economic situation.

How long can I stay at the shelter?
Each woman has her own story and each one is unique, so the length of stays varies. The average stay is between 6 and 8 weeks. Ours is a short-term temporary shelter.

Can my children stay with me at the shelter?
Of course, we provide shelter to women and their children.

What do your accommodations and services cost?
All services at Maison Simonne-Monet-Chartrand are free.

May I go to your shelter even if I don’t lodge a complaint?
Absolutely. Every woman has her own personal story; therefore, your decision not to be a victim and how you implement that decision are entirely up to you. We respect every person’s own pace and strategies.

Are there professionals on site, even at night?
Yes, our various counsellors work consecutive shifts to provide 24/7 service to the women in the shelter, greet new arrivals, and answer the help line.

Are visitors allowed?
For the safety of the residents, their children, and the workers at Maison Simonne-Monet-Chartrand, the address is confidential, and it is very important to us that we keep it that way. Meetings outside the premises, however, are possible and encouraged so as to sustain precious bonds and sources of support.

Can I continue to go to work?
Of course, you’re free to go to work and to go out. Keep in mind, however, that if your partner knows where you work, he may follow you or wait for you there.
