SHELTER
La Maison Simonne-Monet-Chartrand is a secure and confidential shelter for women who are victims of domestic violence as well as their children. Do you need to take a step back, to reassess a situation, or to talk to someone who listens and supports you in your choices? A team of counsellors is present 24 hours a day to assist you. Our priority is to respect your rhythm and your choices.
SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE
Do you need information about your rights and recourse related to the violence you are experiencing? Counsellors are available to provide support and information. If you decide to take action assistance will be provided at each step of the process.
WORKSHOPS
Themed workshops are organized on a regular basis for women at the shelter. During these meetings, various subjects related to the understanding of domestic violence and self-knowledge are discussed. Participation in the workshops is strongly recommended as they allow women to exchange and share with others about their similar experiences. They also encourage mutual aid and they provide self-empowerment tools.
ACCOMMODATION
Are you in difficulty, with or without your children, and in need of accommodation for a few days to evaluate your situation and to better determine your needs? Our shelter offers assistance, support, information and references to help you.
INDIVIDUAL FOLLOW-UP
Individual meetings aim to support you and to foster a sense of security throughout your stay at the shelter. These meetings are centred on your needs. Counsellors encourage you to talk about your experience with domestic violence, to recognize the cycle and the different forms of violence, to learn about victimization and its consequences, to share feelings, and to practice self-assertiveness and self-empowerment.
SERVICES FOR MOTHERS AND CHILDREN
While at the shelter, a youth counsellor is available to offer support to mothers and their children. The counsellor ensures that everyone’s needs are met and she organizes activities and workshops for women and children to nurture the mother-child relationship. The counsellor can also provide respite for mothers if necessary. Our team of counsellors is present to address any questions and concerns regarding the impact of domestic violence on children as well as the parental role.
